Looking for a well-travelled, organized, mature and professional travel agent .... then read on!
Travel has been in my blood since the age of 6 when I decided I would be an entrepreneur, world traveler, author and educator. At age 16 my bedroom walls were plastered with travel posters - not rock stars like all my friends. This was also the same time that I started traveling the world solo. I worked to travel! Pursuing a career in social work and education gave me the necessary skills to be an empathetic travel agent with excellent listening skills. Now after 30 years in the tourism industry, I still have the passion of a 6 year old, but with much more experience!
Although I was born and raised in Toronto, Ontario, I settled in St. Vincent and the Grenadines in the mid 80's where I established my company, Hibiscus Tours International Ltd. I developed, designed and lead numerous tours throughout Europe and the Caribbean, including my award winning “West Indian Cultural Awareness Tour” which I operated for over 18 years. I often wondered if Margaret Mead was my long lost mother from another life and followed in her footsteps to create genuine experiences in all my tours.
Along with running my own travel school in the 90’s, I have been a trainer for many of North America’s top tour operators, including IATA. To this day, I continue to consult and develop educational tourism courses for Universities and Colleges throughout the country.
I was an active member on the board of the Travel Media Association of Canada and have had many opportunities to host media in the Caribbean, shooting TV pilots and setting up location shots for romantic reality TV shows. For the past 10 years, my side niche has been in real estate tourism … and need I say more about the popularity of “house hunting shows” in the Caribbean!!
My desire to work at an international level was rewarded when I took a contract position as the Market Development Officer (Canada) for the Caribbean Tourism Organization. What a wonderful way to get to know and experience the 32 member countries that make up the CTO. I have also been the destination representative for the island of St. Maarten and the Divi Resorts rep for properties in Bonaire, Barbados, St. Croix, St. Maarten and Aruba. And to give me the hotel experience I desired, I took on a contract at the famous Deerhurst Resort in Muskoka, Canada as the spa manager. Experience is my best teacher!
The one piece missing after all my years in the tourism industry was the retail side of being a professional travel agent. Wanting to round out my experience, I ventured into this aspect of travel several years ago and have not looked back! My valuable insight and experience within the tourism and hospitality sectors has shown me that relationships, trust, service and knowledge are the professional values I hold no matter what I do. If you have read this far in my bio, then I know we will work well together for many years to come!
